The Förderkreis Gründungs-Forschung e.V. (FGF) emerged in 1987 from the Schmalenbach working group "Innovative Unternehmensgründung" to promote the idea of entrepreneurial independence and entrepreneurial action. Today, the FGF is the leading scientific association for start-up research, education and policy in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Liechtenstein. The aim of the Förderkreis Gründungs-Forschung is the "promotion of research, teaching and transfer on the subject of business start-ups". The FGF makes an important contribution to the infrastructure for academic research and teaching in the still young field of entrepreneurship. It sees itself as a network node and takes on a coordinating role in entrepreneurship research and teaching. Mr. Witt was president of the FGF from 2009-2015.

The Journal of Business Economics (JBE) is one of the oldest journals in business economics. The Editorial Board includes well-known personalities from the university and business practice. The subject representatives come from the USA, Japan and Europe. The JBE aims to stimulate research in the field of business administration and to contribute to the dissemination and application of its results. It emphasizes the unity of the subject; it wants to counteract narrow and one-sided specialization in business administration. The journal serves the exchange of ideas between science and business practice. It aims to draw the attention of business administration researchers to important business administration problems in practice and to stimulate them with suggestions from business practice.
